This really cute, shy but curious jenny donkey was found standing outside the fence on a busy highway. A horsewoman was shocked to see this jenny donkey and a 2 year old bay roan Quarter Horse filly standing at her front fence along the highway. She was afraid they were going to get hit by a car, so she used her horses to coax them into her paddock.
She contacted the sheriff's department to tell them she had found this donkey and filly at her fence along the highway and the sheriff had informed her that he was full at their location and after the auction he would have room. For those of you who do not know, the sheriff's department in Texas takes many of the stray, seized or abandoned horses and donkeys to the auction. Instead of sending them to auction, the horsewoman contacted us to see if we would take them in. A notice was placed in the paper by the sheriff's department to see if anyone came forward claiming them but they didn't, and ownership was then transferred to us. The kind horsewoman then brought them to the Rescue.
They both are in good weight, and we do not see any mental or physical problems with them. We are letting them settle in, and in a month or so, Sabrina will start working with them both and get them halter broke and well handled.
Braylynn is taking a lot of time to trust. It appears she was not handled before. We have her in our front yard now, with Sabrina's miniature donkey, Olivia, and the two of them have bonded up. We were hoping that if we brought her up here by the house and the barns where we are most of the time, she could watch us interact with the other equines and maybe get curious enough to get closer to us. Of course getting alfalfa and grain helps! She has been getting closer and closer! Braylynn has finally taken a treat from Sabrina! That is such a big step! She is very shy and worried, but when Olivia comes up for treats along with little Nacho, Btaylynn is getting up next to them and reaching out for a treat. We can't wait until she lets us pet her!
